Sewing Hassles

doodle stitching words on fabric

I’ve been stitching so much, I fear I have broken the sewing machine I use for all my free motion stitching. The bobbin casing keeps moving out of alignment. You may hear a loud ‘kachunk’ sound followed by cursing from my studio lately. Perhaps it’s times to find a replacement.

Do you have a recommendation for a sewing machine that does great free motion stitching?

  1. I love my Bernina 150, she is 13 but is still going strong. I know you can spend a lot more to get more throat space which would be nice if it’s in your budget.

  2. I bit the bullet and I bought the Janome Horizon 7700 fall of 2011. I love it. The first time I tried FMQ was on that machine in the showroom and I rocked it first try. It made me a believer.

  3. I borrowed a book from the library by Poppy Treffrey, she is a designer/artist well known in the UK for her free motion drawings. She just uses an old vintage singer rather than any fancy modern machine. (And she sews with no foot – just the needle but doesn’t recommend that you do the same ha ha)

I wondered what you have been using?
