Hope your holidays are filled with warmth, laughter and time to play with fabric!
The background fabric here reminds me of a fairy tale and this quote:

She believes in magic (5.5” x 9”)

“There is real magic in enthusiasm. It spells the difference between mediocrity and accomplishment.” – Norman Vincent Peale

“It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer shakes up the familiar scene, and, as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it.” – Anais Nin
She creates magic (5.5” x 9”)
For a giveaway entry, post a comment: tell me the name of a book that you just couldn’t put down recently.
Summer is in full swing and I am stitching like mad for an upcoming show, but I want to celebrate the magic of 2017 so far. With help of the generous people at Stampington I’m hosting a giveaway. Two lucky readers will win either a copy of Art Quilting Studio or Sew Somerset and some goodies from me. Any comments on the blog in the next 7 days has a chance of winning.
She sews magic (9” x 12”)
I love creating with fabric, paper and thread, but I find inspiration in words too and have always collected quotes. I’ll be posting art quilts and quotes about magic for the next 7 days. I hadn’t realized just how often magic is included in a sentiment on a quilt until I went looking for them. I shouldn’t be surprised given that “believemagic” is a daily part of my life, but when I found 7 pieces I hadn’t yet shared here, I was smiling.
So let’s kick things off with a little Roald Dahl – his stories are magical.
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” – Roald Dahl
For a giveaway entry, post a comment: tell me your favorite Roald Dahl book or story.
The latest issue of Sew Somerset is out and my stitched cards have made the cover!
I am honored to have my art on the cover – I just keep shaking my head in surprise and smiling.
As with each issue, the publisher does a amazing job photographing and displaying the art.
Inside this Winter 2016 issue of Sew Somerset not only will you find my stitched cards, but my book constructed of stitched fabric and paper is also featured.
The issue is packed full of stitched eye-candy and inspiration. Each featured project sparks a little idea in my head for something new I want to try or has me sketching an idea for a future art quilt.
The publisher, Stampington, has generously offered to send an issue to one lucky winner. I’ll be randomly selecting a winner on Monday, Dec 14th from comments to this blog post and the comments to my giveaway post on Instagram (which will be posted later today). Comment in both places for multiple chances to win. Note: This contest is open to US residents only.
In your comment, I’d like to know: have you tried sewing paper before and if no, are you inspired to give it a try now?

I am participating in Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day by giving away three small art quilt to three lucky winners.
This first quilt is ‘Disco Girl at Heart’ that measures 8” x 10”. I made a lot of art quilt similar to this, a fun background and a girl (or occasionally a boy) doing something fun.
The second quilt is ‘Love’ that measures 7” x 9”.
The third quilt is ‘Bloom’ that measures 7” x 9”. Love and Bloom were art that resulted from a what if…what if I sewed strips of sheet music to a canvas quilt background. I add wire and fabric and lots of machine and hand stitching.
Each winner will also receive a Creative Girl Art Quilt Pattern and a bag of fabric scraps.
To win, leave a comment before 5pm AK time on Friday December 12th telling me your favorite holiday cookie or dessert and which art quilt you’d prefer. I’ll randomly select winners.
