I’ve been designing some new art quilts for an upcoming art show and paused to snap some photos of the backgrounds before I began stitching. I thought you might like to see how these develop over the next few weeks.
I’m attempting to capture views of Alaska and after quilting the backgrounds, each will have an appliqué girl and/or boy on them.
A few months ago, I finished this commission quilt. I so enjoy writing with thread.
I’m looking forward to some large chunks of time in my studio this week. I’ve been busy designing new quilts and fusing the backgrounds together. Now it’s time for stitching – my favorite part of the process. I can enjoy the whirl of my sewing machine as I draw with rainbow of threads to create sunset, ocean and mountain scenes.

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” -Neil Gaiman
