I saw this fabric at a local quilt shop and my first thought went to painting it. I found it shortly after watching Lidija’s STITCHED 2015 class ‘Stitching Doodles’.
Thinking we were moving within a week, I had packed away my paints, but wanted to create. With this fabric, felt, pigment pens and my sewing machine, I set about to make something inspired by Lidija.
I laid the fabric on the felt and began stitching the girl. Once finished, I added color with the pigment pens. The fabric puckered and pulled since I hadn’t fixed it to the felt before stitching, but I was inspired to keep stitching and make it work.

Speaking of STITCHED 2015 – a needle tatting class was just added. I am so excited to try this. If you are interested in Lidija’s class, needle tatting or any of the other great stitching related classes, join STITCHED 2015. I love learning new skills and techniques.

Nice using pigment pens for coloring. I got a kit of Inktense blocks by Derwent from Michael’s. I saw an artist painting fabric with them- dissolving them in water and using a brush. You can also draw on fabric and use water to spread the color later. Looked cool. Now to try them…
The internet is a fine thing for inspiration. But that leaves us to do the action to complete the cycle…
