{"id":2941,"date":"2014-08-28T21:45:24","date_gmt":"2014-08-29T05:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/?p=2941"},"modified":"2014-08-28T10:37:12","modified_gmt":"2014-08-28T18:37:12","slug":"small-quilt-binding-and-hangers-tutorial-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/?p=2941","title":{"rendered":"Small Quilt Binding and Hangers Tutorial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Below is my favorite method for adding quilt hangers as I bind a quilt.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut1-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut1-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 1:  Gather materials.<br \/>\n   &#8211; Quilt trimmed to size<br \/>\n   &#8211; Single fold bias tape 1\/2\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n   &#8211; Ribbon, 4 pieces about 1.5\u00e2\u20ac\u009d &#8211; 2\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n   &#8211; 2 spiral paperclips (round or square)<br \/>\n   &#8211; Lighter or lit candle or fray stop liquid<br \/>\n   &#8211; Sewing machine and sewing supplies<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut2-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut2-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 2: Singe both edges of the ribbon to stop fraying.  You could use fray stop liquid instead of a lighter if you prefer.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut3-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut3-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 3:  Open the bias tape and fold down the end about 1\/2\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut4-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut4-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 4a:  Stitch the bias tape to the edge of your quilt with a 1\/4\u00e2\u20ac\u009d seam.  Sew over the folded edge of the bias tape.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut5-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut5-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 4b:  Continue sewing around the edge of the quilt like you would with any other binding including mitering your corners.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut6-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut6-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 4c:  When you return to where you started, cut the bias tape to overlap the folded edge.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut7-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut7-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 4d:  Finish sewing the bias tape in place.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut8-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut8-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 5a:  Fold the bias tape around to the back of the quilt.  The folded edge of the bias tape will cover the cut edge sealing it in.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut9-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut9-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 5b:  Continue folding the bias tape to the back securing edge of the quilt in the binding.  Pin the binding in place as needed.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut10-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut10-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 6:  Place two ribbons on each spiral paperclip (hanger) at 90 degree angles.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut11-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut11-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 7:  Slide the hangers into the upper corners of the quilt with the ribbon secured under the bias tape.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut12-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut12-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nThe top backside of your quilt will look like this.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.believemagic.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/wpid-tuut13-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-tuut13-2014-08-28-21-45.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nStep 8:  Stitch the edge of the binding in place.
